Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar
Foodie PH | Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar, the world’s first champagne engineered for spaceflight, has successfully completed its maiden voyage beyond Earth. Launched on June 25, 2025, aboard Axiom Mission 4 from Florida, the specially crafted bottle returned unscathed on July 15—marking a new milestone in the history of both space travel and winemaking.
What’s New?
After nearly a decade of innovation, Maison Mumm has brought its vision of space-friendly champagne to life. The Mumm Cordon Rouge Stellar isn’t just a novelty—it’s the product of nine years of R&D with aerospace experts, including the French space agency CNES and astronaut Jean-François Clervoy. Together, they created a champagne and bottle designed to be served—and savored—in zero gravity.
The futuristic half-bottle, reinforced with stainless steel and housed in aeronautical-grade aluminum, is a technical marvel. It’s not only space-safe but also elegantly designed, featuring Mumm’s iconic red sash. The elongated neck and unique cork system allow for a smooth pour in microgravity. While the bottle made its space debut in June, it will remain sealed for five more months until Yann Munier, Mumm’s Cellar Master, can perform the first post-orbit tasting.
A Toast to Spacefaring Traditions
This mission isn’t just about bubbles in space—it’s a bold statement about human rituals, even among the stars. Maison Mumm’s goal is to bring a sense of ceremony and connection to long-duration spaceflight. According to CNES, such shared experiences play a key role in crew morale and mental health during extended missions.
But beyond psychology, the champagne itself had to be reimagined. Because human senses are dulled in orbit, Mumm enhanced the wine’s intensity through longer aging and a special liqueur dosage from oak-aged wines. The result? A blend that preserves the original freshness and structure of Mumm Cordon Rouge, while amplifying its aromatic complexity for the space palate.
This isn’t the first time Mumm has ventured into extreme environments. Back in 1904, Mumm Cordon Rouge accompanied French explorer Commandant Charcot on a groundbreaking Antarctic expedition. From polar ice to planetary orbit, the champagne continues to symbolize the House’s spirit of exploration.
